Pot Cover Ø24 — Water Hyacinth

Fits a 20 cm nursery pot with room for the rim.

Material

Fibre
Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes)
Weave density
Medium — a firm weave with narrow gaps. Holds anything larger than a coin.
Woven by hand
Yes — handwoven. Small irregularities in the pattern are the mark of that.
Dyed
No. This is the fibre's own colour, which is why it varies between batches.

Tested load

4 kg

Static load, evenly distributed, standing on a flat floor. Held for 24 hours.

This is a measured figure under one stated condition, not a rating and not a guarantee. A different condition gives a different result — read how we test.

How it changes

Initial shedding
Light. Expect a little fine fibre for the first two to four weeks. Brush or vacuum it up; it stops on its own.
Shade & texture
Batches vary by up to ±10 % in shade and ±5 % in size. Two of these bought a year apart will not match exactly. That is a property of the fibre, not a fault.
Shape under load
Loaded fibre takes a set. Empty it and give it a day or two and most of the shape returns. Left loaded above the tested figure, or left damp under load, the change can be permanent.
Smell when new
An earthy, faintly sweet smell for the first two to three weeks.

Where it can live

Damp rooms
Rated for damp rooms in our testing, on the condition that the room is ventilated and the piece can dry out between uses.
Cleaning
Brush the dust out of the plait, then wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry at once. Not washable, not machine washable.
Heat and flame
Natural fibre burns. Keep it away from candles, hobs, heaters and fireplaces.

No drainage hole — use a waterproof insert

This is a cover, not a planter. There is no drainage hole. Keep the plant in its own pot with a waterproof saucer or insert inside, and pour standing water out. Natural fibre wicks moisture and will stain, soften and eventually grow mould if it sits wet.

Damp rooms need ventilation

In a bathroom or any damp room, natural fibre can grow mould if it cannot dry out. Use it only in a room with an extractor fan or an opening window, keep it out of direct spray, and let it dry between uses. We make no mould-proof or antibacterial claim.

Keep away from open flame and heat

Natural fibre burns. Keep it away from candles, fireplaces, heaters, hobs and hot appliances. We make no flame-retardancy claim for any piece we sell.

Dimensions

Outer
240 mm diameter
Inner
212 mm diameter — this is the space you actually get. Measure what you want to put in it against this figure, not the outer one.
Height
200 mm
Tolerance
±5 % on every dimension. Hand-woven pieces are not machined.

Origin

Designed in
Denmark
Made in
Indonesia

We list these separately on purpose. The design is Danish; the weaving is not, and we will not imply otherwise.
